Entertaiment is the activity that keeps people engaged, gives them pleasure and delight and holds their attention. It can be anything from a clown at a birthday party to a stadium rock concert, but most commonly it refers to performances. The word entertain has its roots in the medieval Latin inter tenere, meaning “to hold inside.” This reflects the early use of entertainment as a form of hospitality. It later came to mean amusement and distraction.
Why does entertainment evoke such deep reactions? Maybe it’s because it hits the points our brains were shaped to react to. It stimulates the production of seratonin and dopamine wich make us feel good.
